The HURRTRAK system allows the user to control the diameter of the eye in the forecast period. This improves wind estimation by taking into consideration hurricanes with very small and very large eye diameters... like Charley in 2004 and Wilma in 2005. Prior to this improvement forecast eye diameters were set at a constant value of 18 nm. The animation below shows how we defined the system to maintain Charley's small eye diameter across the state.
